A Busy Day! A Rescue Day and a Sad Day!

Yesterday was a very busy day!

It started out very sad, but ended on a happy note.  I'm hoping for many happy days, and fewer and fewer sad days.

Yesterday morning a few dogs had to be put down.  Poor Simba was among them, he tried to bite someone at the shelter, and that's not good.  But I still wish he could have gotten out of there!

There were also some  sick puppies at the shelter that had to be put down too, unfortunately the shelter does not have the funding to be able to afford all of the vetting that some of these dogs recquire.  Without that funding, dogs die.  In this case, puppies died.

You can HELP US by sponsoring a dog at the shelter.  This includes covering vet costs, shots, worm medicine, parvo shots, vet check ups.  This stuff does NOT come free for the shelter, they have to pay for it, and if your shelter doesn't have a lot of support from the community, funding is low.  Which makes it very difficult to care for these dogs.  More dogs die.

However, even though some dogs died yesterday, 5 dogs were sent to a rescue group in Illinois.  Thank you to Fortunate Pooches and Lab Rescue they took Ryder, Bruce, Harietta, and 2 puppies that were new to the shelter (dumped puppies).  Thank you so much for rescuing these babies! I hope they all find homes quickly, and we look forward to working with you again! It was REALLY hard for me to fight back the tears as Ryder and Bruce left the shelter.  I've grown attatched to those two boys, and it made me sad to think I wouldn't see them again, but it also made me SO HAPPY to know they wouldn't BE at that shelter anymore, they are going somewhere, that will help them find a HOME and they won't have the fear of being gassed.  Love you Ryder and Bruce! Going to miss you!!
Ryder with one of the transport drivers, he was excited
to get on the road! I heard he did a VERY good job on the 7 hour drive!

Bruce also ready to go on the 7 hour drive to his new destination!
He did a great job as well on the drive.  Way to go Bruce!

One of the new pups that had just come in to the shelter
yesterday that was a dump puppy.  Wishing her the best of luck!

Another dumped pup we were calling Sable, she was new to the
shelter yesterday too.  Wishing her the best of luck as well!

Harrietta ready to go on her 7 hours drive! She did a great job!

This free's up some MUCH needed space in the shelter.  This time of year is VERY busy and puppies come in left and right.  Over crowding means more dogs will die.  Older dogs (either in age or that have been at the shelter the longest) are the first to go, along with dogs showing aggression or illness.

Congrats Freddy!

Freddy and his new FUR EVER family!

Beautiful Milly!
Some dogs also graduated from the HOUNDS program yesterday as well, which means some more dogs will be entering the program after they have been spayed and neutered.  Freddy and Milly graduated the program yesterday. Freddy has already been adopted and went to live with his FUR EVER family yesterday, and Milly will be in Foster care until her new owners are ready to bring her home. Way to go guys!

Right now Mary Ann needs a home, pronto.  She's a little bit older, around 4 years old, and she's been at the shelter for a few weeks. She's had many litters of puppies that's all she's ever known.  She needs a loving home where she will be spayed and spoiled rotten.  If you can help, please contact us!

You will be missed Simba.  I'm sorry we couldn't get you out.
So very very sorry :(  Sorry I failed you buddy. You were
a good and beautiful dog who deserved so much more
in life.

Fur Ever Yours -- Photo Fun Day At the Shelter

Today was a lovely day at the local animal shelter.  There was a large turn out of volunteers which was absolutely wonderful.  We were able to wash several dogs, brush them, walk them, play with them, love them up and take their photos.

There were several new faces at the shelter helping out and that was great to see. They varied from age 4 and a half to up in their 60's and 70's! There were several teenagers and they were a lot of help and did a great job.  Thank you to everyone who came out and helped!

Bruce and Ryder might be going to a rescue group in Illinois, which would be wonderful! Now if only we could find somewhere for Simba and Mary Ann to go as they are the other 2 that are on the list to die if they aren't out of the shelter soon.

The shelter is very full.

There are a lot of puppies coming in left and right. It's heart breaking.

I am really hoping these dogs get adopted out or sent to a rescue really soon.  We're in desperate need of rescue groups, and fosters.

We also need chain link fencing, poles, and gates donated to the shelter so these dogs can stop being kept in the kennels all the time.  It's not healthy for them to be kept in those kennels.  It can make them sick, and it can make them aggressive.  If they are sick or aggresive they can't be adopted out and they die.

These dogs need a dog run, a nice fenced in area to run run run! It will help them out a LOT, but the shelter does NOT have money.  It is completely depending on YOUR donations.  Your time, your money, your kindness.

This is a wonderful community and I know they can pull together to help the dogs at the shelter!

Again thank you to everyone who came out to help! Below is a list of the new dogs, and of some of the volunteers.  Sorry this was a short blog, it's late, and I'm tired.  It's been a looong fun day.

This is Marty, he's a scared boy.  He was an owner relinquishment. He is very scared and timid
until he gets to know you.  Once he gets to know you he is a very loving cuddly boy.
He really loves dog treats! He's probably about 5 months old.

This is Baby, she's a gorgeous gal about 3 months old.  I am really
not sure what kind of dog she is! But she's very pretty! Very friendly,
very playful, good around other dogs and kids. She really loves dog
treats too.  She was picked up as a stray with her sister Cinnamon.
She did well around other dogs and people, and did well for a bath.

This is Cinnamon, who was picked up as a stray with her sister Baby.
Cinnamon is about 3 months old, and WOW she's full of energy! There
was no way I was going to get her to sit still for a photo so a volunteer
held her on her lap, which helped a little bit.  She wants to play and run
lick you and investigate the world! She does well with other dogs and people
and did very well for a bath.

Jessie looks to be a schnauzzer/black lab mix.  VERY sweet girl.
She is very smart, and a little sneaky LOL She kept taking off with my whole bag
of dog treats the moment my back was turned, no matter where I tried to hide them.
She's very playful, did well for a bath, and loves other dogs and people.

We think this little gal HAS an owner but that she's just gotten
lost somehow, so we're searching for her owner.  We would LOVE
to reunite her with her family.  She looks like she's a maltepoo.
She's scared, and doesn't understand why she's in the shelter.
I'd say she's around 2 or 3 years old. She did pretty good for her bath.
She seems to do ok around other dogs, and likes people though
she is a little shy.

Carly is a GORGEOUS brindle gal! She's about 4 or 5 months old.
She loved her bath, and did great for her photos.  She did great with
other dogs, and around people, and ok on a leash.  She is absolutely
gorgeous.
3 volunteers work on bathing Jessie.

Another volunteer takes Goober on a walk after his bath!

Here Gypsy sits with another volunteer and she is soaking in the love and cuddles!
Gypsy is going into the HOUNDS Prison training program, and upon
graduation she is already adopted out!

Here two volunteers give the malteese pup a bath

Here another volunteer takes Jessie out into the grass and spends
some time with her.

Another volunteer takes my buddy Joe on a walk
though he thought sitting and watching
the other dogs get bathes was pretty interesting.

Here another volunteer gives big Bruce a bath.

Here the new animal control officer and her daughter work together
and give big ol' Bruce, a big ol bath! He looks so much better!
Carly soaks up some lovin's from another volunteer

A Rescue Mission?!

Today I got some potentially EXCITING news! I hope it all works out well and everything just falls into place.  If it does? This will be BEAUTIFUL and WONDERFUL!

Bruce, Ryder, and hopefully Simba, will be *hopefully, paws crossed* going to a rescue group in Illinois.  That will be wonderful.  But they need out by Tuesday. Another woman who volunteers to help with stuff at the shelter and does some rescue work was contacted by this group out of Illinois, so I am really hoping all of the little pieces just fall right where they need to so these boys can get out of the shelter.

Simba was the next dog on the list to be gassed, so I'm glad he's going to be getting out too. Beautiful boys who deserve a loving wonderful home.

Praying everything works out for these boys I do not want them to die.

Tuesday is the Photo Fun day at the local shelter, so am asking all of the local people to come on out and volunteer.  The dogs will be getting bathed, brushed, walked and played with and getting their photos' taken to make them look OH SO ADORABLE and adoptable. (Well I'll do my best to take wonderful photos of them anyway, I'm no professional but I've been trying to do all I can to take the best photos possible for them. I'm still learning!)

I figure the photos are better than nothing, atleast people in the community and other places get to see these dogs, they are out there, being seen and that makes a huge difference.  Before, no one was seeing these dogs, no one knew they existed, so atleast I'm doing something to help.

So if you have atleast an HOUR of time to spare on Tuesday, May 29th at 10am, come on down to the Moberly Shelter and help bathe, brush and walk and play with these dogs as they get their photos' taken.

I just wanted to share the potentially great news for Bruce, Ryder and Simba! Please pray that these boys get to go to the rescue group! They need this!

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Wishing everyone and their furry four legged friends a wonderful Memorial Weekend.  Things have been quiet here at our place.  Just trying to spend our time beating the impossible heat.  It's still just the end of May and it's already mega hot and humid here.  Not fun for anyone!

Our central air is NOT working and it is as rotten as can be.  Especially with a house that has 3 small children, 3 small furry kittens, and 2 furry doggies! It can be hot, suffocating and quite unpleasant around here.  Wish the temps would cool down just a smidgen atleast until we get our central air fixed! Thankfully a friend has been kind enough to loan us a small window unit, so that atleast offers some relief in the living room! I'll take it!

Tuesday is Fur Ever Yours photo fun day at the local shelter! All the volunteers are invited to come down to the shelter and help us bathe the dogs, brush them and prepare them for their photos to be taken so they can look as beautiful and gorgeous as possible, yay! Just hoping it isn't so darn hot.  Though I'm sure the dogs will appreciate the cool water! I still don't want to see those doggies turned into hot dogs while we bathe, brush and photo them.

Last week Sugar and Dotty were adopted.  Way to go gals!

I have not heard anymore about Ryder or Bruce though, I'm very worried about those two boys.  They are handsome good dogs and I do not want to see them die.  I will feel like I have absolutley failed them.

Hopefully I will hear something Monday or Tuesday. These boys need homes pronto.

Anyway, just wanted to wish everyone a happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Dogs To Be Gassed SAVE THEM!

There are two dogs currently at the shelter who are IN DANGER of being GASSED as early as THIS WEEKEND.  Yes, these dogs will die if not adopted soon.

The local shelter is a gassing shelter, and believe me when I say they do NOT want to gas any dogs, but the shelter is very small and is very full.  These two unfortunate boys have been at the shelter the longest, so that makes them the first on the list.

Bruce and Ryder are beautiful boys, who need a chance! They deserve to be loved! They have done nothing wrong to deserve a death sentence other than being at the shelter too long.  We are doing everything in our direct power to save their lives.  Please, if you are a rescue  group, or want to foster or adopt them please please please call the shelter at: 660-833-7330!

Fur Ever Yours -- Photo Fun Day!

Hello everyone! It has been a busy hectic week here.  However, today I found some time to run to the shelter for a couple of hours to photograph the new comers.  Generally, I go on Tuesday's but one of my sons had his cancer scans yesterday so we rescheduled the doggy pics for today.  (And my sons CT scan from yesterday looked great, AND he did the CT scan without being sedated which is a really big deal for a just turned 3 year old! I was so proud!)

Anyway, at the shelter today I got to meet some very adooooorable puppies! I love puppies! SO cute and silly and fluffy.

Below are some photos of the new comers!

There are also two dogs that are in danger of being gassed. These boys need out NOW! Below are their DOG OF THE WEEK photos! Makes me sick anyone would want them ONLY because they want dogs to use as fighting pitt bull training dogs! These dogs are FAMILY not fighters!
HI! I'm Bruce! I'm a sweet guy who wants to play with you and be
your loyal best friend.  Please, take me home with you and let me
be your best friend.  I don't want to fight, or die in a gas chamber.
I want to play with you, and sleep next to your feet.  I only ask
for a belly rub, a scratch behind the ears, and not to be abandoned again.
Can you give me the home I need?

Hi, I'm Ryder! I'm a young guy who wants to play and be your best friend!
I want to live in the country where there are no chickens/ducks or geese at the home.
I don't want to be left in a kennel or small pen, it makes me nervous, and then I chew
on things, and sometimes that upsets people. I don't want you to be upset with me.
I just want to play with you and lick you and be your friend for life.  I love for you to scratch
me behind the ears, and I love it when you play with me.  Can you take me home with you?
I don't want to fight, and I don't want to die. Please save me.
We had several volunteers at the shelter today, and I am so glad! Thank you everyone who volunteered! You were so very helpful! Every Tuesday we'll be having a FUR EVER YOURS PHOTO FUN DAY! That means the volunteers can come out to the shelter and wash, brush, and walk the dogs and they can help fix'em all up pretty for photos.  I think the volunteers had quite a bit of fun today!
A volunteer walks ROCKY who will be going into
the HOUNDS Training program in a few days!
Way to go Rocky! He is a cute little Chow mix, a really sweet fluffy guy!

The Volunteer tells Rocky how awesome and fluffy he is.

A volunteer holds Sugar as she waits for her photo to be taken.

Mary Kate snuggles up with another Volunteer while she awaits her
turn at getting her photo taken.

We have also decided to keep Cinders.  Patches will be going to her Fur Ever home in a couple more weeks I think.  She's gotten the hang of using the litter boy, just trying to make sure she can eat dry food before she goes on to a fur ever home.

Sisters-Patches and Cinders

A neighbor also brought another little kitten to us today.  Wasn't expecting that! He is a tabby, bob tailed cat (no tail, and he was born like that).  Gorgeous little guy, very loving.  But, I am kinda worried about him.  He's older than Cinders and Patches and he won't eat, and what I DID get down him he threw back up, so that has me pretty concerned.  He seems healthy other wise though.  Not skin and bones, not sneezing, no goopy eyes, just not eating.  Haven't seen his poo so dunno if it's runny or not.  Hope not.  I'm kind of worried about putting him in with the other kittens.

I also caught wind of someone who is up to no good with collecting dogs from shelters to use as fighter dogs.  That does NOT go over well with me.  I'll do whatever I can to keep that person from getting MY DOGS at the shelter.  (I photograph those babies and they are "mine" I do not want those babies to come to any harm!!)  It's SICK to use those dogs to train pitts to fight.  It's SICK SICK SICK! How CRUEL! So I want to avoid that happening at the shelter here in our town.  I cannot stand the thought of one of my babies being used like that.  It is heart breaking.

Remember Mary Ann?  How I thought she was a litter mat to my dog Molly?  Well found out today that she is NOT a litter mate to Molly, she is infact....Molly's MOM.  Talk about a bomb shell.  My husband saw her shelter photo and almost threw a fit.  He informed me that IS Molly's MOM! I was shocked.  I couldn't beleive it.  I had never seen Molly's mom but my husband had seen her several times.  It is, infact, Molly's mom.  I'm beside my self with emotion on this! I HAVE to find Mary Ann a home where she will NOT be forced to have litter after litter of puppies!! Wherever she goes she has GOT to be spayed, and she deserves to be PAMPERED and LOVED! She's gorgeous.  Everytime I look at my sweet beautiful Molly, I see her Mama Mary Ann. I am so happy we rescued Molly when we did!

Also while I was at the shelter today photographing the new comers, Bailey got adopted! Yay Bailey!! Wishing her the best of luck with her wonderful new owners.

And SEVERAL dogs will be entering into the HOUNDS training program through the local prison.  Such a wonderful program for the dogs, and prisoners.  Below are some photos of a few of the dogs going into the HOUNDS Training program.
Jacks is going into the HOUNDS training program in a few days!
Once trained his adoption fee will be $120 covering his neutering,
shots and training.

Charlie will also be going into the training program in a few days.
His adoption fee upon graduation will also be $120 covering
his neutering, shots, and training.

Lucky is going into the HOUNDS training program in a few days.
She already has a home though as soon as she graduates!
That is what I like to hear! These dogs getting adopted before they
are even IN the program.  So happy for Lucky!
Will be going back next Tuesday to photograph any NEW dogs at the shelter.  There was already one new one picked up! This makes me sad :( Come on people, love your dogs!

Also, remember the weather is HEATING UP! Please, do not leave your dogs outside all day, and if they have to, make sure they have shade, and LOTS of water.  If running errands do NOT take your dog with you. Even with the windows cracked, it can get so hot in there that your dog can have a heat stroke, get dehydrated, or DIE.  Do not leave your dog in the car when it is hot.
